Some mornings, fear arrives before you’re even fully awake — a heaviness in the chest, a dread about the hours ahead. If today is one of those mornings, here are ten short prayers to help you begin.

1. When you wake up already afraid
God, I’m awake and already scared. Before I do anything else today, I’m asking you to meet me right here, in this first fear.

2. When you don’t know how you’ll get through the day
Lord, I don’t have the strength for today yet. “His mercies… are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) I’m asking for today’s mercy, not tomorrow’s.

3. When your body is on high alert before anything has happened
God, my body is bracing for danger that isn’t here right now. Help me feel the ground under my feet and know that this morning, I am safe.

4. When you’re afraid of who you’ll see or where you’ll have to go
Lord, you know exactly what I’m walking into today. Go ahead of me into that place, into that room, into that conversation.

5. When shame tries to set the tone for the day
God, don’t let shame be the first voice I listen to this morning. Remind me that I am not what was done to me.

6. When you feel like you have to face today alone
“I am with you always.” (Matthew 28:20) Let me actually feel that today, not just recite it.

7. When you’re afraid of your own thoughts today
Lord, quiet the noise in my head before it takes over. Help me tell the difference between truth and fear this morning.

8. When you need courage just to get out of bed
God, I don’t need courage for the whole day — just enough to take the next step. Give me that much.

9. When you want to trust God’s protection over today
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1) Let that be true in me today, even if I don’t feel brave yet.

10. When you want to hand the whole day to God before it starts
This day is heavy before it’s even begun. I’m placing it in your hands now, at the start, instead of waiting until I’m overwhelmed.

If mornings are consistently this hard, it may help to talk with a counselor about what’s driving that dread — you don’t have to carry it alone, and support is available.
