“The serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say…?'” — Genesis 3:1
The first attack recorded in Scripture was not a physical attack.
It was an attack on certainty.
The serpent did not begin by threatening Eve.
He did not overpower her.
He did not force her.
He planted a question.
“Did God really say…?”
That question has echoed through history.
It still does.
Today, many Christian women live in a culture overflowing with competing voices. Every day someone claims to know the secret to happiness, relationships, health, parenting, leadership, womanhood, success, or faith. Social media delivers thousands of opinions before breakfast. Podcasts compete for your attention. Influencers compete for your trust. Advertisers compete for your emotions.
Many of those voices genuinely want to help.
Some do not.
The danger is not simply misinformation.
The danger is confusion.
Confusion is fertile ground for manipulation.
When a woman no longer feels certain about what is true, she becomes easier to persuade by whoever speaks most confidently.
That has always been one of the enemy’s oldest strategies.
God Is Not the Author of Confusion
Throughout Scripture, God brings light.
He separates truth from lies.
He separates wisdom from foolishness.
He separates what gives life from what destroys it.
The enemy does the opposite.
He blurs.
He mixes.
He twists.
He leaves people wondering which voice to trust.
The serpent didn’t create a brand-new religion in the Garden.
He simply distorted what God had already said.
That pattern hasn’t changed.
Not Every Voice Wants You to Flourish
As Christian women, we sometimes assume that because someone sounds compassionate, spiritual, educated, or persuasive, they must have our best interests at heart.
Scripture tells us to be wiser than that.
Not every counselor is wise.
Not every teacher is trustworthy.
Not every expert deserves access to your mind.
Some voices profit from keeping people afraid.
Some profit from keeping people dependent.
Some gain influence by convincing women that they cannot think, discern, or decide without them.
Others quietly encourage women to ignore warning signs in order to keep everyone else comfortable.
Jesus never asked women to become easy to manipulate.
He invited them into truth.
And truth makes people harder to deceive.
Seek Experts Who Want You to Live in Abundance
Christian women should never apologize for learning.
Learning is stewardship.
If your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, caring for it is not vanity.
If your life is precious to God, protecting it is not selfishness.
If your relationships shape your future, learning what healthy relationships look like is wisdom.
Seek trustworthy experts in areas like:
- personal safety
- trauma recovery
- physical health
- financial stewardship
- healthy relationships
- emotional maturity
- child protection
- wise boundaries
But ask an important question before giving someone influence in your life:
Do they genuinely want me to flourish?
Or…
Do they primarily want what I can provide?
There is a profound difference.
Healthy teachers want you to become stronger.
Manipulative teachers want you to become more dependent.
Healthy leaders rejoice when you grow.
Manipulative leaders fear your independence.
Healthy relationships multiply your peace.
Manipulative relationships consume it.
Jesus said:
“I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Notice who abundance is for.
You.
Not merely the people around you.
Not merely the institution.
Not merely the family system.
Not merely the community.
Christ came so that you might have abundant life.
A woman whose life reflects God’s abundance is far more difficult to exploit than a woman who has been taught her purpose is to be endlessly available for everyone else’s benefit.
Go to the Source
Good books matter.
Wise counselors matter.
Faithful pastors matter.
Sound teachers matter.
But none of them replace opening God’s Word for yourself.
The Bereans were praised because they examined the Scriptures daily to see whether what they were being taught was true (Acts 17:11).
They didn’t reject teaching.
They verified it.
Christian women need that same habit today.
Read Scripture.
Pray.
Ask questions.
Seek wisdom.
Compare what you hear with God’s character.
The closer you grow to the Shepherd’s voice, the easier it becomes to recognize voices that do not belong to Him.
Your Life Has Great Worth
Perhaps the greatest lie many women have quietly absorbed is that their highest calling is to continually diminish themselves for everyone else’s comfort.
Jesus did not treat women that way.
He protected women from public humiliation.
He spoke dignity over women who had been discarded.
He listened to women.
He healed women.
He entrusted women with proclaiming the greatest news in history: His resurrection.
The Bible does not teach that a woman’s value depends on how much of herself she gives away.
It teaches that she bears the image of God.
That truth changes everything.
When you know your life has value, you become more careful about who has access to it.
When you know your mind has value, you become more careful about what you allow into it.
When you know your body has value, you become more careful about who enters your space.
When you know your peace has value, you become more willing to protect it.
That is not fear.
That is faithful stewardship.
A Prayer
Father, thank You for creating women in Your image with dignity, wisdom, and purpose. Give us discerning hearts that recognize truth from deception. Guard our minds against confusion and our hearts against manipulation. Lead us toward people who genuinely desire our flourishing, and give us the courage to walk away from voices that seek to diminish the abundant life You have promised. Help us to know Your voice so well that counterfeit voices become unmistakable. Remind every woman reading this that her life has immeasurable worth because it is held in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
