“Jesus pursued the vulnerable, protected the little ones, and poured out compassion on the ‘least of these.’ Any dismissal of abuse, any baptizing of evil, any cover-up, or denial of truth is nothing like Him.”
—Diane Langberg, Ph.D.
When Jesus walked this earth, He did not shield the powerful from accountability—He shielded the powerless from exploitation. He did not minimize the pain of the brokenhearted—He drew near to bind it up. He did not silence the cries of those in need—He lifted them above the noise of the crowd.
So when abuse is hidden behind church doors, when silence is demanded from the wounded, when leaders call for forgiveness while denying justice—let us be clear: that is not the way of Christ.
The way of Christ is truth.
The way of Christ is light.
The way of Christ is protection for the hurting, not protection for reputations.
To follow Jesus is to listen when Survivors speak, even when their words disturb our comfort. To follow Jesus is to name evil, even when it wears religious robes or declares itself “good”. To follow Jesus is to tell the truth—not only in sermons, but in systems, families, communities, and courts of law.
We are called higher. Higher than silence. Higher than cover-ups. Higher than denial. If Jesus Himself stopped for the vulnerable, then His people must stop too. Not later. Not after it’s convenient. Not when it won’t ruffle feathers. But now.
Because truth doesn’t wait. And neither should we.
