The first quiet morning can be surprisingly frightening.

You wanted the arguments to stop. Now you are looking at a calendar full of decisions, and nobody can tell you exactly how this next part will unfold. There may be relief in your chest and worry sitting right beside it.
We sometimes speak about new beginnings as though everybody steps into them with a fresh notebook and a clear plan. Some women begin again with two bags, overdue bills, and children asking questions they cannot yet answer. The Lord meets people there, too.
These gospel songs are for the stretch between knowing something must change and knowing how your life will take shape. You can ask for guidance one decision at a time.
1. “Open My Heart” — Yolanda Adams
This song gives uncertainty an honest voice. You can bring God the question you have asked three times already.
Prayer does not require you to pretend a decision is easy when the consequences will land in your actual household.
2. “Order My Steps” — GMWA Women of Worship
The title itself offers a manageable prayer: steps. Perhaps today’s step is getting reliable information or asking someone to explain a form.
A life can change through small, careful decisions. You do not have to see every mile before attending to the ground beneath your feet.
3. “I Will Trust” — Fred Hammond, featuring BreeAnn Hammond
For this playlist, I would hold trust in God alongside careful judgment about people. Someone who has deceived you does not regain access merely by asking you to have faith.
You can believe God will help you and still ask questions, check facts, and expect changed conduct.
4. “My Life Is in Your Hands” — Kirk Franklin / God’s Property
When your thoughts have run all the way into next year, this song can bring you back to the day you are living. There will be time to consider the next decision.
Tonight, you may need supper, a conversation with someone steady, and a little sleep.
5. “Moving Forward” — Israel Houghton
Save this one for the moment you need a little courage. Moving forward can include missing what you hoped a relationship would become.
Grief does not cancel your reasons for choosing a safer future, and you do not have to stop grieving before you take another step.
A prayer for the next decision
Lord, help me recognize wise counsel and help me ask the questions I need answered. Give me courage to act on what I know, patience with what I am still learning, and people who will help without taking over. Amen.
You can begin with the next honest step. The whole staircase can wait.
