There is a season for speaking, and there is a season for leaving. Paul and Barnabas knew that. When their safety and message were rejected, they didn’t waste energy arguing. They shook the dust from their feet and went to people who would listen.
There will be times when you protect your child, set a boundary, or speak your truth — and someone takes offense. Let them. You do not need to beg for their approval. You do not need to stay. Your life is too valuable to be worn down fighting those who refuse to understand.
Scripture:
“But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium.” — Acts 13:51 (ESV)
“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” — Matthew 7:6 (ESV)
Living Parable:
Think of a traveler walking a long road. At times, dust clings to their sandals. If they never stop to shake it off, the dust builds and weighs them down. But with a simple act — a shake of the foot — the burden falls away, and the traveler continues light and free.
In the same way, when rejection, ridicule, or hostility clings to you, God gives you permission to shake it off. Not every heart will welcome your truth, your boundaries, or your care for your family. But your calling is not to stay weighed down by dust. Your calling is to walk forward in peace.
Prayer / Affirmation:
Lord, give me discernment to know when to move on. Lead me to safe and listening spaces. Protect me as I shake the dust and walk forward in peace.
Future Study Prompt:
